The compact Giant SyncDrive Sport 2 electric bike motor has Smart Assist technology and is sonically tuned for smooth, quiet performance. It’s tuned to deliver high power, even at low speeds. Smart Assist technology calculates the amount of torque, cadence, slope and speed and, based on these calculations, determines the amount of motor output the rider needs. It feels more powerful due to its ability to support higher cadences and its faster ramp-up in torque. For the full specs of the Giant SyncDrive Sport electric bike motor please see below

Smart Assist lets you forget about changing settings while riding, so you can focus on enjoying the ride. It’s similar to an auto transmission in a car, providing the appropriate support automatically. This intelligent system uses sensors and advanced algorithms to determine the optimum amount of power a cyclist needs. The result is an extremely smooth, natural, and enjoyable riding experience.
This technology also maximizes efficiency by not using unnecessary energy. And since it provides optimal pedaling support, it also ensures rider efficiency. In short, Smart Assist enables you to think less and ride more.
INTELLIGENT SUPPORT
The combination of Smart Assist technology and the instantaneous response of the SyncDrive motor creates a smooth and powerful riding experience.
NATURAL FEELING
The Smart Sensor measures the amount of power being applied to the pedals so the motor can replicate the natural riding style, adding assistance when needed.
EFFICENCY
Smart Assist technology maximizes energy efficiency for both the rider and the battery system.
GIANT SYNCDRIVE SPORT MOTOR SPEC TERMS
1. Weight: The total weight of the SyncDrive Sport Electric Motor.
2. Torque: In the context of electric bikes, torque is the force that propels the wheels forward, generated by the motor's rotational energy (measured in newton-metres).
3. Support Ratio: The support ratio on an e-bike is the level of assistance you can set for the motor, and it can be adjusted in different modes. The assist ratio changes for each mode, but the maximum amount of assist torque doesn't. For example, in "tour" mode, you might be able to set the assist ratio between 60 and 120%, while in "power" mode, the adjustment variance might be between 240 and 300%.
4. Q-Factor: Q-factor measures the horizontal distance between your pedals. A high Q-factor can cause strain on the knees and make the riding experience feel less natural. Giant E-bikes with SyncDrive Sport motors are designed with the same Q factor as conventional bikes.
5. Walk Assist: SyncDrive motors include a walk assist feature. This mode provides just enough forward momentum to help the rider move over obstacles, which is especially helpful on technical trails with steep hike-a-bike climbs.
6. Moisture: The Giant SyncDrive Sport electric motor by Yamaha has a small breathable membrane that allows any moisture that may enter the motor to dry out over time. All the electric components of a Giant/Liv e-bike are highly water resistant, however they are not waterproof. For further information on caring for your e-bike please visit our E-Bike Care page.
7. Smart Assist: All SyncDrive motors have Smart Assist technology, which adjusts the support to match the rider’s needs. By using information from multiple sensors, both rider input and terrain feedback are used to determine the optimal amount of pedaling assistance provided.
8. Engagement: Engagement is measured in degrees and is the angle of rotation once rotational pressure is applied to the pedals before drive is engaged. The SyncDrive Sport motor features an engagement of 14°.
